National Adoption Day is an annual collective effort to raise awareness of the more than 120,000 children waiting to be adopted from foster care in the United States.
The first National Adoption Day, November 18, 2000, was inspired by the innovative efforts of Michael Nash, a former presiding judge of Los Angeles County’s Juvenile Court. He opened the court on Saturdays, engaged the volunteer efforts of court personnel and finalized adoptions to reduce the backlog of one of the busiest courts in the nation.
Every year, the Smith County Young Lawyers Association proudly participates in our local National Adoption Day. With a generous donation made by Tab & Bonnie Beall and the funds earned at SCYLA's annual Christmas silent auction, they are able to provide lunch as well as fabulous gift baskets for all of the beautiful adoptees. It is a fun day indeed!
